Power Division Secretary Abul Kalam Azad on Friday said the government will purchase 500 MW of electricity from India before the next irrigation season.
He came up with the disclosure to the journalists while visiting an inter-country sub-station grid at Bheramara Upazila of the district.
The government is working for 106-km length transmission line and a substation project to execute the project within the stipulated time, he added.
A meeting was held on Friday to reset the time frame to complete the work three-month before the stipulated time.
The secretary also revealed that primarily it would cost Tk 4 per unit of electricity but the price could be fluctuated time to time.
Earlier in January 11 in 2011, Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding with India over the purchase of 250 MW of electricity from India to meet the increasing energy demand.
The sub-station construction task is going on in full swing on 113-acre of land at Golapnagar of the upazila adjacent to Hardinge Bridge with an estimated cost of Tk 1,100 crore.
