Jamaat Ameer Ghulam Azam at BIRDEM Hospital,Bangladesh

Detained former Jamaat Ameer Ghulam Azam was taken to BIRDEM Hospital as he had fallen sick in the ICT-1 before the beginning of witness cross examination against him on Wednesday morning.

The tribunal later fixed July 24 for the cross examination.

Earlier in the morning, Ghulam Azam was taken to the custody of the tribunal from BSMMU prison cell. He felt pain in his chest while taking to the Ajlas at about 11:50am.

Ghulam Azam’s lawyer Barrister Abdur Razzak told reporters Ghulam Azam might have a mild cardiac arrest. His is in serious condition.

The defense lawyers were scheduled to cross examine the second witness Mahbub Uddin Ahmed against Ghulam Azam.

On May 13, 2012, the ICT-1 framed charges against him.

On December 12 of last year, formal charges of ‘crime against humanity’ were submitted against Ghulam Azam for his role during the Liberation War and appealed for issuing arrest warrant against him.

A total of 52 allegations were complied in the charge book against Azam, who was Ameer of the erstwhile East Pakistan chapter of the Islamic party that sided with the Pakistan government during the liberation war.
