The 236th anniversary of the declaration of Independence of the United States of America was celebrated Friday at Bashundhara Convention Center in city’s Bashundhara Residential area through a gorgeous programme with the presence of noted persons.
USA-Bangladesh Friendship Society and Global Alliance for Homeland Securities arranged the programme.
Chairman of country’s conglomerate Bashundhara Group Ahmed Akbar Sobhan arrived at the convention center at 5:15pm along with US ambassador to Dhaka Dan W Mozena.
Addressing the programme, state Minister for Women and Children Affairs Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said, “The bilateral relation between Bangladesh and America is at good position and through more export-import trading this relation would be strengthened I hope.”
Dan W Mozena said Bangladesh has much potentialities and it will be the next tiger of Asia in exporting medicine, RMG products, information technologies and frozen fishes.
BNP leader Mahbubur Rahman said, “Both countries are working together and united over various matters like curving terrorism, and we support the democracy and development policy of USA.”
Abul Hasan Chowdhury said, “We can go so far using the good terms among the people of both countries.”
Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, “The British told us coward, but we proved us knight, sincere and faithful through the worldwide UN missions.”
But our progress is under hope for the clash of two political parties, he added.
In his inaugural speech M Golam Mehraj presented the history of the declaration of USA independence. The messages of US Congressmen Joseph Crowley and Gary L Ackerman were also read out. Later another Congressman Peter King also delivered speech over video. And Tanvir Ahmed presented the article on International Terrorism.
The programme began with the national anthems of Bangladesh and USA and later BG chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan cut the cake with other guests.
The programme was also attended, among others, by UGC chairman Professor AK Azad, DMP commissioner Benjir Ahmed, BNP standing committee member Mahbubur Rahman and Barrister Nazmul Huda.
