Soon after his resignation, the president appointed Prof Anwar, a biochemistry teacher at Dhaka University, as new VC of the university.
While speaking at the press conference after the election, VC Prof Anwar described it as an historical moment.

Two panels--Prof Sharif Enamul Kabir, and Prof Shamsul Kabir Khan, a member of the University Grant Commission, have been selected in one-member panel.
