Rohingya pushback Human rights not violated: NHRC,Bangladesh

BANGLADESH NEWS

DHAKA: National Human Rights Commission chairman Dr. Mizanur Rahman Saturday said  Bangladesh is not violating human rights or international law by sending Rohingyas back to Myanmar.

“Rohingya intrusion into the country is very human incident. It needs to be considered from humane perspectives,” he added.

He came up with comment while addressing a seminar titled ‘ITLOS verdict on Bangladesh-Myanmar maritime dispute: A significant example in maritime law’ at noon.

Law Commission organized the seminar at National Planning and Development Academy auditorium.

Rohingyas are being sent back in such a situation which cannot be termed as violation of human rights, Dr. Mizanur opined.

In response to a query, the NHRC chief said, “As per International Convention, the government of that country has to request to refugee their people in any country. Myanmar government did not send such kind of request to Bangladesh government.”

“Besides, Bangladesh security forces have taken necessary measures for fair return of the Rohingyas, who tried to intrude into the country,” he added.

Raising question that why other countries and human rights organizations are not pressurizing Myanmar, he said, “Myanmar should be under pressure from international community regarding the issue, not Bangladesh.”

Law Commission Acting Chairman Professor Dr. Shah Alam chaired the seminar.
