No anti-labour law: Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan,Bangladesh

DHAKA: Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan Friday said the government would not enact any law which is harmful for labors’ interest.

He made the assertion while addressing a national conference of Bangladesh Labor Federation at the National Press Club.

The minister also said, “The labor organizations should have to be united for implementation of their fair demands.”

The ruling Awami League lawmaker said, “The Labour Act-2009 will be amended considering the recommendations.”

Mentioning that the demand to dissolve industrial police as ‘unacceptable’, he said, “Industrial police is not for protecting owners and repressing labors. It was formed to save the industry.”

Addressing the programme, BNP standing committee member and president of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Nazrul Islam Khan said the incumbent government has not fulfilled its election manifesto regarding the labours.

President of Jatiya Sramik League Abdul Matin, general secretary of Bangladesh Trade Union Centre Dr Wazedul Islam, general secretary of Bangladesh Mukta Sramik Federation Mojibur Rahman Bhuyan and President of Bangladesh Free Trade Union Congress Abdul Mukti Khan also spoke.
