ATN Bangla chief interrogated,Bangladesh

BANGLADESH NEWS

The Rapid Action Battalion investigators have quizzed ATN Bangla Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman at his office over the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

The grilling came amid growing calls by journalist groups to interrogate the private television station's supremo.

RAB's Media and Legal Wing Director Commander Mohammed Sohail, who led a team to the station's office at around 11am, said they also collected a video recording of an interview of Mahir Sarowar Megh, the only son of the slain couple, after the killing.

Sagar, a News Editor with private channel Maasranga Television, and Runi, a Senior Reporter at ATN Bangla, were killed on Feb 11 at their residence.

Sohail told journalists that it was part of their 'continuous' investigation to expose the killers.

"We are visiting their workplaces," he said claiming that they were moving 'step by step'.

Earlier, Z I Mamun, Head of News at ATN Bangla, told that the elite force arrived at their office at Kawranbazar at around 11am and talked with their Chairman.

"They also collected some video footage," he said.

Journalists had been demanding that the ATN Bangla Chairman be interrogated to crack the mystery surrounding the killing of the journalist-couple after Mahfuzur himself said in London that he had a video footage relating to the killing.

Mahfuzur on May 30 told journalists in London that the slain couple was 'victim of an extra-marital affair' and that he had a video footage and information on the case.

The RAB spokesperson said they were informed recently that "ATN Bangla has a video footage of Megh's interview".

"We were curious to watch the video. We collected it along with other reports relayed by ATN Bangla following the murder.

"We have also collected video footages of the reports run by other TV channels (after murder)," he said.

Sohail urged journalists to have patience as he believed the elite force would be able to reach the culprits.
