Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed on Thursday said the political parties would decide under whom the next general election would be held.
“The Election Commission is a constitutional body… it’ll follow the existing laws during the election,” the CEC told reporters at a workshop at the divisional election officers’ office here.
His remarks came amid the political impasse between the ruling alliance and the opposition over the caretaker government issue.
“There’s no alternative to election for the continuation of democracy in the country,” the CEC said expecting that the political parties will reach an understanding soon in this regard.
