Fast-unto-death at JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY One Admitted to Hospital

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY : One of the four Jahangirnagar University students fell sick and admitted to hospital during staging their fast-unto-death on Wednesday for the second consecutive day.

Secretary of Jahangir Nagar Theater Russell Rana was rushed to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital at about 1:30pm as per doctor’s advice.

Earlier in the day, teachers of Jahangirnagar University under the banner of “Shikkhak Samaj” joined the fast-unto-death programme of the general students.

The JU students are continuing their fast-unto-death for the second consecutive day on Wednesday demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor Professor Shariff Enamul Kabir.

Two teachers on behalf of Shikkhak Samaj – Soma Momtaz and Shamima Sultana –joined the students; demo at about 10am.

Students under banner of ‘Sangskritik Jote and JU against terrorism’ began the fast-till-death at 11:30am on Tuesday in front of residence of VC protesting the attack on cultural workers of the university.

Besides, Editor of the daily New Age Nurul Kabir, Columnist Rehnuma Ahmed, Professor Geeti Ara Safia, singer Krisna Koli, actress Banya Mirza and other noted personalities have expressed their solidarity with the demonstrating students.

Earlier, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of the university unit beat up two followers of Sangskritik Jote on April 28.

A portion of JU teachers under banner of ‘Shikkhak Samaj’ are staging demonstration from April 27 in front of the vice-chancellor`s residence, demanding the resignation of the VC.
