A Dhaka court on Thursday framed charges against the chairman and the managing director of Ekushey Television (ETV) in a case filed against them for not submitting their tax returns within the stipulated time.
Judge Md Jahurul Haque of the Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka read out the charges against Chairman Abdus Salam and Managing Director Ashraful Alam. The duo pleaded not guilty and demand justice before the court.
Earlier in the day, the judge rejected a petition for discharging them from the charges.
According to the case statement, the duo did not submit their income tax returns for the fiscal years 2008-2009, 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 within the stipulated time even though they had repeatedly been served with notices.
The complainant also said the NBR served them notices on January 29, 31 and February 15. But they did not appear before the NBR to explain why they had failed to submit their returns in time.
