Tremor jolts country

A 5.3-magnitue earthquake jolted the capital and other parts of the country on Friday evening.

There were no immediate reports of casualty or damage from the earthquake that took place at 6:42pm.

The epicentre of the quake was 210kms north-east of Dhaka, Prof Humayun, director of the Earthquake Observatory Centre of Dhaka University, told .

According to the US Geological Survey, the tremor originated at the depth of 11.5 km under the earth at a place which is 113 km (70 miles) east of Guwahati in Assam, India.

Our Dinajpur correspondent says an earthquake of moderate intensity jolted Dinajpur and its adjacent districts Friday evening forcing many people to come out of their houses.
