Five activists of banned Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen
Bangladesh (JMB) on Thursday were sentenced to 10 years rigorous
imprisonment in the case for serial bomb blasts in Rajshahi city on
August 17 in 2005.
The convicts are: Jakir Hossain, Liakot
Hossain alias Harez, Amanullah alias Aman, Abdur Rahim alias Nasim and
Zillur Rahman Shaheen.
Ekramul Haque Chowdhury, Judge of
the Speedy Trial Tribunal, Rajshahi delivered the judgment in a crowded
court in presence of Shaheen, while the rests are absconding,
The court also fined Tk 20,000 each, in default to suffer one year more in jail.
Detective
Branch of police submitted charge sheet on May 30, 2006 against 19
people as accused of exploding bombs on August 17, 2005 at six different
spots in Boalia area of the district.
The court however
acquitted 11 people from the charge as they have already been sentenced
to life imprisonment in another case of the same incident, the court
said.
