Home Minister Shahara Khatun has expressed satisfaction over law and order situation during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.
Shahara, who drew flak from a cross-section of people after she suggested that people arrange own security, and keep home and shops under lock and key before going out on vacation during the Eid, was talking to reporters on Wednesday at her Secretariat office on the first day of office after the Eid holiday.
"People have celebrated this Eid in an atmosphere free of criminal activities and extortion. Law and order situation was good across the country including Dhaka. No untoward incident has been reported anywhere," Shahara said.
There were incidents of snatching and several people were killed in such incidents before the festival, but the Home Minister claimed the people could shop in a 'fearless' atmosphere.
"I visited various markets and talked to people (before Eid). They shopped until 1 or 2 am. No snatching-extortion took place. People shopped and returned home without any fear," she said.
She also thanked Communication Minister Obaidul Quader for ensuring 'safe' journey for the people who went to their native places during the holidays.
